23:45 10 May - Detailed video of Record demo
Go over to musotalk to see a two part detailed video of the Propellerhead Record demo from yesterday. Its a high quality video and gives loads more detail, but does not show the actual live audio record. Summary below.
- Record is its own application, targeted at singer & song writers, focussed on capturing ideas and recordings quickly
- 3 environments (mixer, sequencer, rack), using your function keys to skip between them
- As mentioned previously, a new mixer modeled on a SSL incl full channel strip, eq, bus compressor, gate.
- if you have reason, you can drop reason devices into record
- Record can be used without reason, but you dont have access to the Reason devices
- You can't run Reason and Record at the same time
- Rack can be side to side as well as up to down
- All data is saved into 1 self countained file - no audio folders, etc. But this means big files!!
- Line 6 partnership to allow "plugin" of guitar amp
07:00 10 May - Details on Record, incl pricing
Jsaras posted the following details on the propellerhead forum regarding Record.
- It records audio, duh!
- It natively opens Reason files...if you have Reason installed.
- 64-bit mix engine.
- SSL 9000k modelded EQ and compression on every audio channel and an SSL modeled bus comp as well.
- Line 6 guitar and bass amp models.
- A simple Sound Canvas/Proteus tone generator.
- Very intuitive track comping.
- The best time-stretching I've ever seen. I saw a 40-track audio project (full band, vocals, etc.) time stretched from 130 bpm to 180 bpm to 68 bmp by simply typing in a new tempo value without any artifacting.
- The Reason rack convention is maintained, but you can now have as many racks as you'd like from left to right. You can do all the cabling, just as in Reason.
- No third-party plugins are supported, but it can be ReWired. As with Reason, Record is a "closed system" but that allows the code to be very CPU efficient. It will run on any machine that can run Reason, which is just about any lame computer.
- No time code support, no video support.
- The price is $249, $149 for registered Reason owners.
- Release date: 9/9/9

Propellerhead Record - Reason's sister offering Audio Recording?
A new post has just gone online at the CDM blog about Propellerhead's new product - Propellerhead Record. Link to the post is included below, but before you read any further, consider the closing paragraph of the blog post:"Note that this is my own personal take. I did run it by Propellerhead, however, so this is not a rumor or leak. Embargo is lifted on the details on Monday, when we’ll be able to actually show images of the software." (Peter Kirn, CDM)
My view - there is too much certainty in the acticle for it to be based on thin air. The guys at CDM are clearly in the know, so I would not be surprised if Propellerhead Record is the new name, and Audio Recording is its game.
Here is the article on Create Digital Music. A summary of key points below. Post your views on the Reason forum topic.
- Its a new tool, in addition to Reason
- Based on a complete new look at the process of "recording" (will it be as innovative as Reason?)
- It will be shown at PDC today
- Quote from Ernst, "This program has nothing to do with audio. It’s all about music… We wanted this to be about music making."
- Its not intended to be a DAW
Back soon
